Title: Attach 1099 to tax return?
Post by: porsche on February 27, 2010, 06:55:25 pm
Hi,
Do I need to attach 1099 forms to my tax return?
Thanks.

No, you only attach forms W2 and 2439 to your tax return (to the front). You do not need to attach any 1099 forms. The only exception is 1099-R (pension distributions) which needs to be attached to your tax return (this is because IRS needs to know whether you are required to pay 10% penalty for early distributions/withdrawals). (See chapter Assemble your Return on page 76 of 1040 Instructions).

Great, thanks much. It would be quite a lot of paper if I had to attach all 1099s too. :) What about state taxes, is it the same. No need to attach 1099 to state return too?
