Title: schengen visas
Post by: misskate85 on June 25, 2009, 06:17:38 pm
I am going to Italy, do I need to book ALL my flights to the other schengen states in order to be granted the schengen visa? Or can I just book my flight to italy? In other words, I want to go to Spain and Amsterdam as well, but I don't want to book those flights until I'm sure I have the visa (can't get refunds)
so will the italian consulate grant me a schengen visa to ALL shengen states even if I've only booked flights and hotels in Italy?
Thanks

Hi,

Welcome to the forum. The common practice is that when you get the Schengen visa, it is for "Etats Schengen (http://www.euro-dollar-currency.com/etats_schengen.htm)" which means for the whole Schengen zone. (It depends on your nationality and the place where you apply. What is your nationality and in which country do you apply?) In general you should be ok with just tickets for Italy, but the more documentation proving that you won't immigrate you can provide, the better.

Cheers.

Thanks,
I'm on a south african passport so it's quite limiting. I am living in the UK now (on a working holiday visa) so I applied through the Italian consulate here in London.
As it takes so long to get an appointment (4-6 weeks) I obviously don't want to be unprepared or go without all the necessary documentation as I'm afraid I'll get denied.
Where can I double check this info- the italian website doesnt seem to cover it...
Thanks again  :)

Hi,

Try this site, it covers a lot about Schengen visa (http://www.euro-dollar-currency.com/schengen_visa.htm).

Here is a list of embassies in London with their phone numbers: london embassy (http://www.euro-dollar-currency.com/embassies_in_london.htm). There is a phone number for the Italian embassy too. Your best bet would be to call them and ask the officials.

Let us know how it went, ok?

What did you say on your application? Did you mention on your application that you want to travel to Italy only, or did you say you want to travel to the other states too?

it does not matter which country you enter first. the important point is that the country which issued your visa should be your main destination (in terms of lenght of stay).

Title: Multiple entry Schengen visa ?
Post by: nk on October 07, 2009, 06:10:00 pm
Hi,
I will be flying from New York to Delhi with a 23hr stay in Amsterdam in between. I want to visit the city during that time, for which I will be applying for a Schengen visa .

I would like to know if it is possible for me to get a multiple entry visa now so that I can visit Schengen countries in next 6 months-1year or will I have to reapply for visa each time I visit? I don't have specific dates when I will revisit but it should tentatively be in the next months or so.  Currently I only have confirmed tickets from New York -> Amsterdam -> Delhi and a one-night stay in a hotel in Amsterdam.

I am an Indian national going to India to get my H-1 visa stamped.

Please advise. Thanks,

When you fill out the schengen visa application, check the box that says that you apply for multiple entry visa. If you are lucky, the embassy will give you multiple entry schengen visa. If you plan on visiting Amsterdam in 6 months, you are ok, you should get the visa by then.

24. Number of entries requested
Multiple entries

Beware, I think there is one catch. I do not think you can apply for visa in New York. I think you need to apply in your home country. The same concept like with H1, you can't get that in NY either.

Hi, iv been given a single entry schengen visa of category C. My main destination is sweden....i will be flying in and out of stockholm. But in the 5 days that im in sweden, i would like to visit copenhagen in denmark. Is that possible with a single entry schengen visa? i have already booked my flight ticket out of stockholm so i have to return to sweden to catch the same. thanx.

Sure, the visa is single entry, and it means that it allows you to enter once the Schengen zone. You can go to any country within the Schengen zone once you are in.

Hi, are you saying that your wife does not have her own passport? She needs to have her own passport to travel, and then it does not matter to whom she is married or not. By the way, how can you be married to two wifes at the same time? (What country are you in?)

I am going to Czech republic and am issued a schengen Visa type C from 12-12-09 to 24-12-09.
Initial plan was to go to Prague and come back.
Now after Prague I have to go to Pris for 2 days and then return.
Is there any problem?
Second I want to land in Prague on 11 -12.
Is it possible ? If so how?

Hello, look at your visa, what does it say on the line "valid for"? If it says Czech Republic, than you can't go to France. If it says "Etats Schengen", then you can go to France and any other country in the Schengen zone too. (Etats Schengen (http://www.euro-dollar-currency.com/etats_schengen.htm))
If the visa is valid from 12-12-09, then obviously you can't land in Prague on 11-12-09.

Hi, what kind of problems have you encountered before? Visas are granted on per person basis. In general, there are no issues with Filipinos, there may be issues with individuals preventing them getting visa regardless of which country they come from. Which country are you planning on going to?

My wife and I are Australian citizens, planning for a holiday in Europe in 2011, and just clarifying any visa/entry requirements.

I think I have the basic rules:

No need for a visa for Australian citizens visiting the Schengen countries,
We can stay 90 cumulative days within a 6 months period.
Once we have used our 90 days in the Schengen countries, we have to be out of Schengen countries for 90 days before we can return for another 90 days.

However, we are likely to wish staying in the Schengen region for more than 90 days.   For example, we might like to stay and travel for 5 months (Feb to June).   Could this be possible?

Would we need to have (1) proof of funds? (2) Return airfare? (3) any other requirement?

Hello,

You have the first part of your question right. Exactly as you say.

If you wanted to stay over 90 days, you would need different category of visa. Schengen visa category C is for short-term stays up to 90 days. If you wanted to stay longer, you would need to get Schengen visa category D or C+D which is considerably harder to get. (See here Schengen visa category (http://www.euro-dollar-currency.com/schengen_visa_categories.htm)). I am not sure what exactly you need for the C+D visa, but I hope I am at least able to point you in the right direction, perhaps someone else here can provide more details. The C+D visa is what is also called "work visa".

Also, do not forget that you need to have travel (health) insurance when traveling to the Schengen zone.

D.

Hi ppl...

I'm havin an issue. I'm an indian national working in Kuwait. I have planned a pers tour to Greece during Feb for 4 days. However, rite after that i've some official work in Austria and Germany. So, i applied for my schengen visa from German embassy and the same has been stamped. Now the problem is even though i'm travellin to germany , my first port of entry is athens and considering the length of the days, my main destination woulld be Vienna. Will i have trouble at the immigration in any of these places? If so is there a solution?

Title: Re: schengen visas
Post by: GildaPrice on February 11, 2010, 04:44:20 pm
I am little confused by your case. When you look at the visa, it should say valid from and valid until. You have to enter and leave whichever country in the Schengen zone between these dates. Then, when you look at your visa, it says for which country it is good. Either it says some specific country (look for "Valid for"), i.e. Germany, and then you can go to Germany only, or it says "Etats Schengen", and then it does not matter through which country you enter or leave the Schengen zone. I hope I have helped. Let me know.

Hey gilda!!

Thanx fr the reply. Well it says valid for Schengener staaten and its a multiple entry visa.. so i guess i can go into any of the states in the EU rite? does it matter if my main destination is Vienna or my forst port of entry is Greece?

Title: Re: schengen visas
Post by: GildaPrice on February 13, 2010, 09:30:16 pm
Hi, if it says "valid for Schengener staaten", then you can go to any country in the Schengen zone and it does not matter which country you go to first. Just the country that issued the visa must be your "main" destination (judged by the length of stay, having hotel reservation, etc.). You said your visa is from the German embassy, so Germany needs to be your main destination. Do not forget that you need to have health insurance.

Post by: danisara on February 13, 2010, 09:42:47 pm
By the way, in addition to a proof of health insurance coverage you also need to be able to show a return ticket back to your country (they might not let you enter the Schengen zone if you have one-way ticket only).

Both Sweden and France are part of the Schengen zone. Once you have Schengen Visa for "Etats Schengen" you can go to any Schengen country. That is the point of the Schengen zone. But, check your visa the "valid for" line. What does it say? Does it mention some specific country, or does it say "Etats Schengen"?

Hey danisara,
Thank you very much for the reply. I came to France from Sweden without a issue. My visa is a type C , valid for Schengenstater. I have only single entry and exit to Schengen zone which means if i enter the Schengen zone and if i go out of the Schengen zone i will not be able to come back since the visa is a single entry. People who needs to travel out of Schengen zone and return to Schengen zone should apply for Multiple entry visa. Hope this post will be helpful to someone.. Thank you.

Hi this is more of a question instead of a comment:

Hi I am a Bangladeshi National but I am a permanent resident in the united states. I am a student studying engineering and I also have a decent job with an engineering company. I really want to visit my boyfriend who is American on a study abroad program in Germany and i was hoping to visit him during thanksgiving, spring break and summer vacation. I was really hoping to get a 1 year multiple entry visa however it seems that its rarely given out. I am applying at the consulate in Boston and I am getting letters from both my University advisor and my boss. I also have about 10k in my bank account and have purchased one plane ticket with travel insurance. Does anyone know how i can increase my chances of getting a 1 year multi entry visa? or if it is even plausible for me to get one? I speak fluent English and i have been to china, Malaysia, Nepal and Thailand without ever overstaying. Also if i get denied/ get a short visit instead of the one year what are my chances of getting another visa if i apply again? So would it be better to apply for a single entry instead of even stating multiple entry on my application? Should i just put exactly how many days i would go for the first time?Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hello, anything that can prove your credible history can increase your odds. You are on a good path with your letters. It is hard to say how you can make the officers to give you a multiple entry visa because nobody can see into their heads and predict how they wake up in the morning. Perhaps you could write a covel letter with your visa application that will state something along the lines that you would like to have a multiple entry visa because you expect repetitive visits in Germany because ... some good reason.

Btw, if you mention that you are a US permanent resident, that should give you enough credibility too. I am not sure, there might be some special treatment for us residents too.

I have a big confusion and I really appreciate if could help me to clarify it..

I asked for a multiple entries Schengen visa thru Polish Embassy in my country. They granted me in fact a multiple entries visa, but in the field "Valid for", it says "Polsky (Poland)", but I need to enter no only to Poland but also France and Italy and Spain. I called this morning to the embassy and they told me this kind of "national Visa" allows me to enter any schengen country, because it was granted by a schengen country.

Is that true ??? Can I enter to other countries different than Poland ??

I expect to travel this weekend, so a quick response is highly appreciated.

Title: Re: schengen visas
Post by: danisara on October 15, 2010, 11:58:05 am
If it says "Poland" only on the "Valid for" line, then that is the country which you can visit. If it was a visa valid for the Schengen zone, it would say "etats schengen" (or "Państwa Schengen" in Polish) on the "valid for" line, see here for a Schengen visa sample image:
http://www.euro-dollar-currency.com/schengen_visa_image.htm
Since you have so little time, your best option will be to confirm this with an officer when you go through the border patrol when entering Poland (I assume you fly, so ask at the airport).

The date on my invitation state I will leave Lithuania 30 November 2010, Can I still apply for the visa starting another date to leave?

Sure, you can apply at the embassy of the country to which you travel, so if you travel to France, you can apply at the French embassy. Did the Hungarian embassy provide any instructions?

Yes, that is correct. According to the 90/180 rule, you can stay a maximum of 3 months out of any 180 days in the Schengen zone. Since you just came back after being there for 3 months, you would not get the visa (accepting the visa by the embassy would be just a waste of your money since the application would be automatically rejected). (no need to post your question twice)
