Title: Schengen Visa - less than 80 days in two countries
Post by: visaquestion on March 30, 2011, 01:31:29 pm
I am a US citizen.  I will be spending 30 days in Italy, then 80 days in Greece.  Do I need a Schengen visa?

Yes, you do. Citizens of the USA do not need a visa to visit the Schengen zone states under the condition that:

  • purpose of the visit is tourism, business (but not employment), or transit and
  • time spent in the Schengen zone countries is no longer than 90 days within a 180 days period (simply said)

The long story short, USA citizens are not required to apply for a Schengen visa for stays not longer than 90 days. Make sure your passport does not expire before the end of the scheduled trip.  See here: Schengen visa 90/180 days rule (http://www.euro-dollar-currency.com/90_180_days_rule.htm) or look up VO-(EG) 539/2001 for more details.
