Title: duration 5 days, visa valid for 1 month
Post by: shabina.h@gmail.com on April 21, 2011, 03:21:44 pm
hi everyone.
i am an indian national travelling to schengzen area from UK. i have got a visa of 1 month validity- multiple entry. the duration of stay mentions 5 days. i had applied for a tourist visa.
does this means i travel for 5 days in total, or 5 days each time.
what happens if i stay for 10 days instead of 5.
i intend to return before the expiry of my visa, but maybe 3-4 days after my given duration of stay.

If your visa is good for only 5 days, then that's what it is good for. If you want to travel more, you need another visa.

if my schengzen visa says 5 days duration, but is valid for 1 month, multiple entry, does this mean that i can go multiple times to the schengzen area and stay for a maximum of 5 days each time, or does it mean that i cannot exceed 5 days in total, however many times i enter

Title: Schengen visa duration of visit

Here is the official definition of the DURATION OF VISIT heading that you see on your visa:

Code:
This heading indicates  the number of days  during which  the holder
may stay in the territory for which the visa is valid. This stay may
be continuous or, depending on the number of days authorised, spread
over several periods  between the dates mentioned under 1.2, bearing
in mind the number of entries authorised under 1.3.

The number of days  authorised is written in the blank space between
"DURATION OF VISIT" and "DAYS", in the form of two digits, the first
of which is a zero if the number of days is less than 10.

The maximum number of days that can be entered under this heading is
90 in any half-year.

So, in your case, the 5 means the total of your days that you stay in the Schengen zone. "Multiple entry" just means that you may come in as many times as you like until you use up your "duration of visit". If you leave after 3 days, having a multiple entry visa, you may return for another 2 days stay.
