Title: Windows would not start
Post by: atari on October 24, 2008, 10:16:31 pm
Hi,

I am in a real trouble. My Windows XP freezes at "Reading personal settings" screen and never goes further.
It can start however in Safe Mode.
I scanned for viruses and spyware with Norton Antivrus and Adaware but nothing was found.

I don't understand where the problem is..

Should I use the Windows XP installation CD to solve the problem? How do I do that..?

Thanx.

Some possible solutions:

1. Use the install CD to repair windows. Put the CD in the drive and boot up the computer, then select to repair windows.
2. Look in the BIOS and see if there are any hardware configuration problems.
3. There might be another solution, but you could save and files you don't have backed up and wipe and reinstall windows with the installation CD.

Have you tried Last Known Good Configuration yet?

Thanks, I used HijackThis to find and uninstall all my garbage and it helped.

Yes, but I cant find the default program to open it with.  It only lists the Stuffit and Mozilla programs under "Open With".  Where is the default windows zip program?

Which program can't you open? HijackThis? It should be an executable.
