Title: lost carte sejour
Post by: mark.thornton21 on December 09, 2014, 12:27:10 pm
My wife is visiting her family in s america and has lost her carte sejour for residency in france. She was told by the french embassy to apply for a visa so she could return and renew her carte sejour. She now has a 3 month visa during which time she will renew her residency card on return.

The normal condition of a shengen visa is that you must have a return flight out of shengen area. Is it ok to book a cheap flight to the uk, (she has a uk 5 year visitor visa) rather than an expensive one to s america? she will not use either flight as she will renew her residency and remain here.

Thank you

Most visitors return to their original location, but it is not uncommon to fly to some other place after visiting EU. Let's say you wanted to do a round trip around the globe, you would need Schengen visa to enter EU, but your flight out of EU would not be back to your origin.

so it would be ok to gain access to shengen without a return ticket to s America, only onward travel to uk?

Be prepared to explain your situation. Some border officers are more knowledgeable than others.
