Title: Never finished my visa process?
Post by: allieat on January 03, 2015, 05:08:18 pm
Okay.. I was offered a deal to live with a family as an au pair for a year to teach English to a little girl in Belgium.
We never went through a program due to the extensive paperwork and we had agreed to settle the payment with just free board and food etc. Also extra cash for shopping and the sort.
Numerous problems have arisen to the point where I would like to go back to the US.
They told me I had to go to school here for my visa, and I signed papers and wrote a letter and got my picture taken etc for the visa. I arrived  here the 2nd of july and now it is the 3rd of January.. that adds up to 186 days total that I have been in Belgium. Also I have been going to school as a free student since September.
Recently I asked to go to Germany for a noel market, the family I am with informed me my visa is not valid? They explained to me that all the paperwork is with the court house office but they have yet to go through the paperwork there..
With being a college student I have just enough money to get a ticket but I am afraid I will be fined a large sum of money and put onto the blacklist because I don't have a visa physically. If I couldn't go for a day trip to Germany how am I supposed to fly 5,000 miles out of the Brussels airport with no visa??

Let me get a few facts together. You came from the USA as a regular tourist (no special visa sticket attached to your passport). You do not have a permanent residence card from Belgium in your hand. Is that correct? In case that is correct, you have already overstayed your visa (read about the 90/180 rule posts on this forum). You might get caught and fined for the overstay, or you might slip through the border upon your departure back to the USA quietly, that all depends on the vigilance of the particular border officer. You do not need the Schengen visa to exit the Schengen territory, you need it to enter only.
