Title: Overstaying schengen visa by 5 days

I'm a surgeon from Egypt.. I had a sch. Visa which has ended in 7th of September. ..  I attended certain educational course from 1st to 6th of September. . Then , I had an invitation from a medical conference in Rome from 8th to 12th of September. ... I have tried to get another schengen visa from the Italian embassy in Egypt... but they closed their cosulate and cancelled my appointment due to Principal subjects of security  ...  what shall I do now??.. is there any way to make my '5' days stay in Italy legal and what will I face "penalty"???
