Title: Canadian Overstay in Poland (wedding complications)
Post by: jcb929 on September 15, 2015, 01:01:20 pm
Hello,

Im looking for some advice on my situation. I am a Canadian citizen and I arrived in Poland in early May of this year. I am now aware that I have overstayed my 90 days after speaking with the Canadian embassy. My intention was to get married to my Polish finance however, we only just found out yesterday that the courts here in poland won't make a decision on the approval of our marriage licence until Jan 28th 2016 (we submitted the papers in May 2015)! I now have some decisions to make regarding my stay. I was told that I can try to apply for temp resident permit on the basis of marriage however bc I have overstayed i can pay a fine or be deported.
So here are my questions:
Are the boarders very strict in Poland?
Should I just leave and take my chances that i won't be banned?
My fiancé and i want to get married in canada now as it is a million times easier. Will being married to a Polish citizen make my re-entry easier?

any advice would be much appreciated.

Hello, once you are married to a Polish citizen, you can apply for Polish citizenship. Then you do not have to worry about the overstay. Two months overstay, my estimate is that the fine (if any) will be a few hundred euros.
