I am sure you all heard some news and suspicions about Obama not being a US citizen.

What if that WAS true? What if it turned out to be true that Obama is not only a natural born citizen but not a citizen at all? Who would become the president or would they hold another election? I thought that maybe McCain/Palin would become president by default, but I know that the people would not be happy about it, so im not sure what would happen. Could the Vice President become a president in this case?

If it turned out that Obama is not a citizen at all or not a natural born citizen, it would be a major problem not only for him, but for the nation as a whole. It would have major economic implications too.

People outside the US would say "How can you believe anyone in that nation, if you can't trust their own president?" Most likely, this [the lack of trust and the political instability] would have a major impact on capital markets too. It would affect the confidence in financial markets.

In any case, I am sure the guys up would argue about what to do, and I believe many of them would vote even for changing the law just so that Obama could stay.

Could Bush artificially inflate these suspicions right before Obama's inaugaration? That is another question.

I think the answer can be found in the Constitution:

Amendment 20:3

Code:
"If, at the time fixed for the beginning of the term of the President, the President elect
shall have died, the Vice President elect shall become President. If a President shall not have
been chosen before the time fixed for the beginning of his term, or if the President elect shall
have failed to qualify, then the Vice President elect shall act as President until a President shall
have qualified; and the Congress may by law provide for the case wherein neither a President
elect nor a Vice President elect shall have qualified, declaring who shall then act as President,
or the manner in which one who is to act shall be selected, and such person shall act accordingly
until a President or Vice President shall have qualified."

So, based on the Constitution, it looks like the Vice President is the one that would take over as the President.

Remember that when voting, we vote for both the President and the Vice President. So if for some reason President Elect Obama isn't able to serve the office of the President then the Vice-President Elect Joe Biden would serve.

Two possible scenarios could happen.

If it was proven that Obama is not a citizen before the Electoral College voting (12/15),then the Democrats would pick someone to be on the ballet. It would probably be either Joe Biden or Hillary Clinton. Having this choice, the Electoral College then votes on the candidate they want. Because of some rules on the Electoral College voting (they differ from state to state), theoretically McCain or Palin could get voted in as well. But it is more likely that the Democratic candidate would be voted in.

If the information was released after December 15th, Joe Biden would then be President.

However, there is one more probably scenario. Most likely, the guys would start sueing each other. There would be lawsuits, and the election results would be tied up in court when 12/15 arrived. Perhaps, the law suits would take place even through January 20th. If that was the case, then Bush would just stay in office until it is resolved. The current president continues to be president until a new president is elected. If it is tied up in court, and one isn't elected when he normally would be, the current president stays in office. So, I guess, Bush still has some space for his games, I am sure he is busy as hell how.  Grin

I do not think anyone has forgotten all the mess Bush has made, everyone is the victim of his mess through the recession, but this new guy does not appear to be much better. Why is he sending more troops to Afghani? What good is it going to make, won't it be yet another Vietnam ala Obama? Sending more troops to Afghani is the last thing this country needs!
