overstaying schengen visa

Hi,

I would like to know if I could still apply for schengen visa after overstaying up to 4 months.

I traveled to one of the schengen states somewhere in 2009 and lost my passport after 10 days of staying. It took me 4 months to be able to get traveling certificate from my embassy as well as personal return ticket to my country.

I am currently planing to travel to one of the schengen state for business and would like to know if I'll encounter any problems at the embassy because of my overstaying.
