So, I have a long stay temporary French visa ( long sejour temporaire) that expires on September 22. I'm currently studying in France, and my advisor told me that I can legally stay in France for 90 days after the visa expires as a tourist. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I am supposed to be nannying for a family for 3 months starting September, so I really need to know. I'm a citizen of the United States.

Thanks!

Overstaying Schengen visa can result in being banned from the country for a period of time and also in hefty fine. Therefore, you should not rely on a public discussion forum with such decision. My answer to your question is yes, but I am not affiliated with any governmental entity. Your best option is to confirm this information with the embassy directly. It is just a phone call.
