I'd like to put together about 6 months in the Schengen Zone.  I know that I can't stay 180 continuous days.

Here's what I think I can do.  If I arrive in the Schengen Zone on Jan 1, 2016 the 180 day period will end on June 29.  If I leave Schengen on Jan 8, I'll have used 7 days and will have 83 remaining days to use until June 29.  If I return to Schengen on April 7, that will give me 83 days until June 29.

Then on June 29 I leave Schengen and go to a non-Schengen country for a day, get my passport stamped and return to Schengen on July 1.  Then I can stay till Sept 29, using my full 90 days.

Even though I wouldn't be there for 180 continuous days, I'd be there for almost 6 months, with a little trip to UK or some other non-Schengen country in the middle.  With a short trip at the beginning of my first Schengen stay, then I could put 83 days and 90 days virtually back to back, with a day or two in between.

Anybody have any ideas about this?  Thanks!

Unfortunately, it does not work this way. The 180-days period is a moving time frame. Please, search this forum, this question has been answered and the 90/180 rule explained here so many times already.

Thanks, I'm going to do that.  I think you're referred to something I've seen here before that I didn't understand, about it being a moving time frame.  I'd thought it was a fixed time frame.  Thanks for your response.

Thanks, I understand it now.  It's a continually moving 180 days, not at fixed start and end.  Can't exceed 90 days within ANY 180 day period.  More complicated than I originally thought.  But I get it now.

Thanks!
